Taut and mineral, the 2022 Volnay 1er Cru Pitures reveals aromas of dark berries, cherries, spices and mint. Medium to full-bodied, layered and lively, with powdery tannins and a chalky finish, it's generally bottled only in magnum.

90-92

The 2022 Volnay Les Pitures 1er Cru is only bottled en magnum as it's a small cuvée (0.15ha) and is more backward on the nose with touches of seaweed inflecting the dark berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm and slightly granular tannins. It's not quite as finessed as the Les Mitans, but the finish has plenty of substance and grip. A broad-shouldered Volnay. Give it 4-5 years or more in bottle.
