The 2016 Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese #14 (Versteigerung) has a coolish, fresh and mineral bouquet with very delicate honey and floral aromas (no botrytis though, says Oliver Haag). Lush, piquant and salty on the palate, this is a stunningly pure and refined Spätlese of great finesse and elegance. The finish is terribly long and complex and reveals lovely nectarine flavors. Auctioned for 42 euros (excluding VAT and taxes) in Trier in September 2017. Tasted March 2018.

This auction offering leads with subtle but complex floral perfume, ripe pear and quince, as well as intimations of wet stone. (I wonder why it isn’t more tropical in character.) The lusciously fruity palate is creamy yet animatingly juicy and almost ethereal in its sense of both levity and wafting inner-mouth perfume. The tenderly caressing, tightly clinging finish is transparent to wet stone and loaded with mouthwatering, sweet-saline suggestions of raw scallop.
