The 2009 Richebourg Grand Cru bursts from the glass with a hugely expressive bouquet of cassis, ripe blueberries, licorice and spices. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and gourmand, with a deep, layered and open-knit core, melting tannins and a long, succulent finish. This is a dramatic, ripe, unctuously fruity vintage of Anne Gros's Richebourg that is drinking well today. Given this cuvée's comparatively rapid evolutionary trajectory, there seems to be no reason to wait.

Good bright, deep red. Wonderfully vibrant aromas of raspberry, flowers, blood orange, cardamom and cocoa powder. Offers an uncanny combination of silky texture and sappy energy, with the brisk red berry and floral flavors accented by licorice and medicinal herbs. This is actually less backward today than the Clos Vougeot, but should enjoy a slow and glorious evolution in the bottle. The vibrant, slowly mounting finish features firm tannins and outstanding grip and length.
