The Wine Advocate

Wine Advocate

The spectacular, dark ruby-colored 1999 Charmes-Chambertin, from 40 hectoliters per hectare yields, displays mouth-watering violet and sweet berry aromas. This rich, medium to full-bodied wine is loaded with candied cherries, blueberries, Asian spices, and sugar-coated blackberries. It has a beguilingly sweet, supple, and extraordinarily long finish that reveals copious quantities of fruit and prodigiously ripe tannin. This gem should be at its peak of maturity between 2005 and 2012+.

Full medium ruby. Superripe aromas of roasted red fruits, black cherry, animal fur and coffee; complex and noble. Then dense and sweet, but also sappy, shapely and penetrating, with compelling depth of fruit and subtle use of oak. Very long, smoky finish combines a firm tannic structure with terrific sweetness of flavor. This will drink early and late.
