Reddish-amber. Aromas of red fruits macerated in alcohol and mocha convey the autumnal quality of the vintage but show little or no sign of the rot that plagued this challenging year. Then dry and penetrating on the palate, remarkably energetic for a wine of its age. Quite juicy and fine-grained, even silky, with uncannily youthful, high-pitched flavors of raspberry, crushed rock and flowers. Finishes with excellent floral persistence. Really bulletproof fruit here--and a great performance in the context of the year, almost certainly reflecting a brutal rejection of subpar fruit. (bottle taken from my own cellar)
