While perhaps shadowed by the ascendance of Domaine des Comtes Lafon to blue-chip status in Burgundy over the past 30 years, Dominique began producing wine under his own name in 2008 with a selection of vines rented and purchased in Puligny-Montrachet, Beaune, and Meursault. Dominique and the Comtes Lafon team farm all the vineyards with the same rigorous methods and carefully oversee the work in the cellar.

Dominique Lafon

Whether it be in Macon or in his home village of Meursault, Dominique Lafon has always had a desire to expand his footprint in Burgundy. Despite the stellar reputation of Domaine des Comtes Lafon as one of the finest in all of France, Dominique set up another project under his own name built of some choice parcels totaling about 4.5 hectares in Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Volnay, and Beaune in 2008.

Dominique believes the wines produced under his own name are more tense and mineral, owing to shorter elevage and a bigger focus on vines planted higher up on different hillsides than the family domaine. He sees the label as a place to continue to learn and experiment as a winemaker without having to change the style of Domaine des Comtes Lafon. Dominique and the team tend to the work in the cellar with extreme care and apply the same biodynamic philosophies in the vineyards.

All the wines from the Dominique Lafon label are made in a separate facility where he runs a custom crush facility called Chateau de Bligny-Les-Beaune with a friend. Dominique does most of the work in the cellar himself and sees this addition to his portfolio as a return to his roots as a vigneron.
