The 2012 Schlehdorn Riesling trocken Unikat displays a vivacious golden-yellow color and a fascinatingly deep, very elegant and refined, tropical, herbal/minty-scented and rather coolish nose despite the warm terroir close to the Rhine River. The wine shows great finesse and salinity on the palate and is spectacularly pure and vital and provided with a long, saline and tensioned finish. This is a fabulous Schlehdorn with the rhythm of Riesling. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2022.

Brooding aromas of apricot, toasted pine nuts and lemon grass, with a leesy nuance hovering in the background. The taut nectarine flavor and juicy minerality mask an herbal earthiness that some will find offputting. The grapes for this dry Riesling are from a plot of 80-year-old vines in the St. Nikolaus site that were spared during the land consolidation process in the late '60s. Although almost orange in style, this impeccably balanced, spicy wine is nonetheless extremely refined and should age very well. It may not be your cup of tea, but it's a wine that every amateur of dry Riesling should try once.
