NV Delamotte, Brut NV

Constructed of about 60% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 5% Meunier, the Brut is a delicious and deep(er) counterpart to the classic Blanc-de-Blancs of the house. The black grapes come mostly from Bouzy and Ambonnay, lending the clasic crushed dried floral character, elevated by Chardonnay's natural brightness.

Often referred to as "Baby Salon", Delamotte has been in existence almost two centuries longer than their more famous sister house. Still located at the heart of Mesnil-Sur-Oger, and blessed with top Grands Crus of Chardonnay, Delamotte is one of the most consistently excellent Champagnes from one release to the next.

Delamotte

With history dating back to 1760 when it was the one of the first five Mesnil Champagne houses, Delamotte today remains the consistent sister to the minuscule production of Salon. The style of Delamotte is in contrast, also, in that the wines are much more open, giving and less shrill in their youth.

Delamotte has excelled at the blending of various vineyards surrounding the house and from neighboring villages, creating a broad and complex wine that will go through full malo-lactic conversion. This is also in contrast to Salon, and results in the aforementioned breadth and depth. The Blanc-de-Blancs is released in a mult-vintage and single-vintage version (with the occasional late-released bottling), and a Brut - a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier has garnered great acclaim in recent releases.
