For those who say there’s no value to be had in Burgundy, we say you haven’t looked hard enough. After a few work placements in the Loire Valley and a stint with Thibault Ligair-Belair, Raphaelle Guyot returned to Yonne – sandwiched between Sancerre and Chablis – to launch her own project and made quick work replanting 10 hectares of vines in Puisaye Forterre. Her wines are youthful, energetic, and she’s quickly creating an identity for her region.

Raphaelle Guyot

Even seasoned collectors and wine professionals might remark “Where, exactly?” when talking about Raphaelle Guyot and her Vin de pays de l’Yonne. After studying in Beaune and working at some notable wineries in the Loire and Burgundy (including a stint with Thibault Liger-Belair), Raphaelle returned home to Puisaye Forterre to start her own winery focused on rehabilitating fallow vineyards in the area.

The vineyards that Raphaelle works are truly on the outskirts of western Burgundy located between Sancerre and Chablis. In terms of appellations, think Cotes d’Auxerre, Irancy, Bourgogne Aligote, Saint Bris and, of course,Vin de pays de l’Yonne.

In terms of winemaking, Guyot prefers working with a majority of stems for the reds (usually around 70%) and minimal intervention throughout the vinification process, with often just a bit of sulfur added to stabilize the wines. The whites are subtle and elegant and the reds are vibrant and charged with personality and drinkability.
