How Pre-Arrival Works

These wines are currently on the way to Thatcher’s Wine. We have sourced them from some of our clients' private cellars, our friends in Europe, direct from the domaine or through our other trusted networks. On each product you will note an estimated time of arrival. Understand that these are only estimates, and to ensure that your wine arrives safely it may be longer. Utilizing this method allows us to offer some amazing wines and gives you the opportunity to secure them earlier. Upon arrival at TWC you will receive a notification and we will ship the wines to you.

"Somewhat stunningly, one of my longtime favorite Champagne producers still hovers under the radar and maintains that crucial approachability for all of us. Hure Freres soaked into my consciousness after a lucky visit in 2016 with Francois Hure, and in the years to follow it would chronically be featured on my wines by the glass"

Hure Freres

The estate was formed in 1960 by George Hures for his wife Jeanne. His three children, Raoul, Marc, and Jean-Marie took over in 1971. By 2008 Raoul's son, Francois, took over after spending time working globally in various roles, obtaining his oenology degree in Dijon, becoming fascinated with biodynamics while working with Jean Pierre Fleury, and exploring the vineyards of Australia and New Zealand. These experiences allowed François to understand the inherent advantages of both New and Old World wine regions.

The Hure Family owns 10ha in the villages of Ludes, Villedomange, Brouillet, Serzy, Prin and Vavray, and purchase a small amount of Chardonnay from 1.5ha in Rilly-la Montagne and Villers-Marmery. In 2006, Francois and his brother Pierre eliminated the use of herbicides and pesticides and started implementing biodynamic methods in the vineyards with the focus of creating a living terroir. Francois recognized the efforts and focus in Burgundy of treating each parcel individually and implemented this at the estate.

In the cellar, there is a mix of stainless steel tanks, foudres, and small used barrels, depending on the vintage and what each plot needs that year. Fermentation is conducted using natural yeast and with long aging on the lees.
