How Pre-Arrival Works

These wines are currently on the way to Thatcher’s Wine. We have sourced them from some of our clients' private cellars, our friends in Europe, direct from the domaine or through our other trusted networks. On each product you will note an estimated time of arrival. Understand that these are only estimates, and to ensure that your wine arrives safely it may be longer. Utilizing this method allows us to offer some amazing wines and gives you the opportunity to secure them earlier. Upon arrival at TWC you will receive a notification and we will ship the wines to you.

The straw-yellow colored 2016 Rheingau Riesling Hallgartener Hendelberg "Erste Lage" has a lovely clear, pure, fresh and slatey Riesling nose of great elegance and finesse. Aged for ten months on the full lees in 30-hectoliter oak, this is a medium-bodied, finely racy and delicate Hendelberg with a firm mineral structure and lingering salinity. The finish is electrifying: pure, tight, concentrated, fresh and very long and mineral. This is a great expression of a great terroir. Tasted at the domaine in October 2017.

Meyer lemon and white currant, toasted hickory nut and a hint of oak in the nose are followed on a lean but palpably extract-rich, polished and lightly lees-enriched palate by a bright bursting of juicy lemon and white currant, together with glowing, gripping intensity of peach kernel, lemon pip and berry seed. As one works this up in the glass, some of the floral perfume characteristic for the site – here, iris and chamomile – begins to emerge on the nose and then well-up inner-mouth. The vibrant finish is palate-staining and so intense as to leave one’s mouth feeling practically wrung-out. I miss the transparency, salinity and persistent juiciness of this bottling’s ostensibly lesser sibling (the village-level “Rheinschiefer”). But about the enhanced overall concentration here there can be no doubt; so let’s see what time in bottle brings.
