From the oldest vines (120+ years), the 2015 Riesling Zeltlinger Sonnenuhr Auslese *** (White Capsule) opens with a very pure yet rich and intense bouquet of luxuriously ripe and intense fruits. Rich and opulent on the palate, still with a yeasty texture but great elegance and endless salinity, this is a powerful and intense Riesling with fine yet vital acidity, a very good mineral grip and a long finish. However, this wine needs at least 10 to 20 years to age and might deserve an even higher score then.

Ripe apple and white peach are garlanded with honeysuckle, studded with raw hazelnut, and tinged with the piquancy of seeds and pits on a head-turningly intense nose and a seductively luscious palate performance, with textural creaminess and the merest hint of sweetness reinforcing an impression of seamless ripeness. The intensity of honeysuckle-, narcissus- and heliotrope-like inner mouth perfume is striking and complements a sense of buoyancy remarkable for a wine this expansive and texturally lush. The enveloping and soothingly persistent finish adds an appropriate stone-licking nuance to the wine’s floral and fruity layers.
