I've truly enjoyed 2013s for years, as there's a delicacy, almost floral character to the wines throughout Champagne. Decidedly dryer than the B.10, this is mid-weight, lifted, and bright.

Dufour is a young grower, farming 6 certified organic hectares in Landreville within the Côtes des Bars and the Aube, many of those parcels planted by his grandfather, wrought old vines creating wildly complex, albeit small production wines. All wines are certified organic since 2010 when he also started biodynamic farming. Charles vinifies his wines in a combination of stainless steel and French oak, the blend depending on each harvest. His style definitely favors the oxidative over the reductive, and his wines can go so far as to be described as chewy, in the best way; bottle age and time in a glass or decanter is always beneficial to these styles of wines, as the natural freshness of his amazing vineyards provides a spark to the first taste of opulence.

Francoise Martinot (Charles Dufour)

The Bistrotage line-up is a series of wines Charles makes from his mother's land, in the same village (Landreville, in the Cote des Bars) as his own vineyard land. Made very much the same as his own wines, utilizing both steel and oak, these are wines of deep, rich character backed by a delightful salty mineral tone. Entirely Pinot Noir, always based on a single vintage, except in the case of the "+1" bottlings which will include some reserve wine.
