The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières opens in the glass with notes of lemon oil, freshly baked bread, pastry cream, nutmeg and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with racy acids and a penetrating, mineral finish, it's a beautiful, classically proportioned white Burgundy.

The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières 1er Cru has a more "aloof" bouquet. It's Zen-like at first, with apple blossom and light, wet pavement scents. However, I would have liked more intensity. The palate is nicely balanced with deftly integrated oak. A silver bead of acidity keeps this Puligny on its tiptoes, fresh and saline so that the saliva starts to run with the prospect of the next sip. This has shifted up through the gears since I last tasted it, but give it a couple of years to subsume the new oak. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
