Essentially a one-man domaine, Nicolas was not born into a family of vignerons nor inherit a plot of vines; instead, after harvests with DRC and Domaine Chave, among others, he began five years of work at DRC in 2010 while trying to cobble together vineyard plots for his own domaine, even now just 1 hectare in size!

Domaine Nicolas Faure

The vision is simple - no matter the plot, treat it as if it were a Grand Cru. Of his vineyards totaling a mere 1 hectate, the first plot was Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Herbues, and in 2013 he came by 3 more plots - one of century-old Aligoté vines near to Pernand-Vergelesses, another Gamay within Nuits-Saint-Georges, the third a Pinot Noir vineyard designated as Bourgogne within the Cote de Nuits. 2015 brought an opportunity to manage and produce a vineyard in Aloxe-Corton. He also holds a day job managing the vineyards of his wife, Amelie Berthaut of Berthaut-Gerbet.

Nicolas' wines are scintillating, pure and expressive of their origin...not shy on flavor by any means, following many of the methods of his mentors and idols - the vertical press of Leroy, the farming and strenuous selection of DRC, and the naturally low-yielding crops of his old vineyards all serve to create wines with an unmistakable signature of quality.

The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Herbues, which was due to be bottled within several weeks, has a delightful bouquet with red cherries and crushed strawberry scents. The palate is a little reduced on the entry, fleshy with a bit of wood on the finish that will be subsumed with time.
