The 2020 Volnay Vendanges Sélectionées is even better, wafting from the glass with deep fruit tones evocative of plums and raspberries, complemented by hints of raw cocoa, loamy soil and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's deep and seamless, with lively acids and a long, penetrating finish.

Matured in around 10% new oak, the 2020 Volnay "Vendange Sélectionée" is more floral than the regular cuvée with scents of dried rose petals infusing the red berry fruit, a touch of wet limestone underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening, fine acidity, gentle grip with a little more substance on the strict finish. Very fine, but it needs 3-5 years in bottle.
