2019 is a very good but perhaps not great vintage, and some wines can feel a little exotic. The 2019 Chardonnay En Billat, still unbottled almost four years after the harvest like the rest of the whites, was quite perfumed and a little exuberant. It comes from vines planted in 1973 and 1980 on marl soils in the neighboring village of Grusse. It is elegant, salty and floral to the point where it feels a little like a Savagnin. The same wine in amphora, which will represent one-third of the cuvée, feels more reductive and citrusy.
