Aromas of crisp orchard fruit, citrus blossom and pastry cream preface the 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains, a medium to full-bodied, satiny wine that's concentrated and penetrating, with a taut but elegantly fleshy profile. It has turned out very well.

The 2019 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru has an open bouquet with orange blossom, Anjou pear and linden scents that cohere nicely in the glass. A slight touch of oxidation doesn't seem to accentuate with time, though it could be off-putting for those sensitive to that trait. The palate is well-balanced, with a welcome bitterness on the entry that lends tension. Fresh and vibrant, this builds in terms of weight toward the finish that feels grippy with plenty of extract. There's some clever winemaking on display here, and it should give 15-20 years of drinking pleasure. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
