The 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières is also performing at a very high level, wafting from the glass with scents of orange oil, crisp green apples, white flowers, nutmeg and pastry cream. Medium to full-bodied, bright and layered, it's taut and precise, with a concentrated and tightly wound core, racy acids and a chalky finish.

The 2019 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru is another of those "misbehaving" wines from Dominique Lafon, entirely at odds with what was a stellar showing from barrel. It has a more flamboyant nose where the imprimatur of the growing season is more indelibly printed and covers some of the terroir expression. The 2019 displays orange and lime cordial, touches of passion fruit and a background oily note. The palate continues in a similar vein, almost Gewürztraminer-like in style, quite brash and flamboyant, but it's like a wine shouting close to your face. I'm going to have to taste this again. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
