The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Blanchot-Dessus is showing brilliantly, wafting from the glass with aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, buttered toast, orange oil and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it's lavishly textured, with a fleshy core of fruit, huge concentration and bright buttressing acidity. Long and penetrating, it certainly makes its proximity to Montrachet felt—though I would rather drink this Blanchot-Dessus than many renditions of Montrachet!

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Blanchot-Dessus 1er Cru has a pure and generous bouquet with yellow flowers, clear honey, acacia and light Clementine aromas on the nose. The palate is rounded and honeyed on the entry, powerful and rich with tropical notes of passion fruit, pineapple and spice towards the finish that is a little more buttery than expected. Thoroughly enjoyable but maybe not as intellectual as I expected.
