Back before Meursault was "in", Francois Jobard was wowing drinkers with beautifully precise, personable wines that were always a steal, and aged gracefully. By the time the wine world caught up with what Burgundians knew, Francois' son, Antoine had took over and was leading the estate to even greater heights. Today Antoine oversees an impressive array of lieu-dits and Premier Crus from Meursault and its surrounding appellations, producing stellar bottles of class, crystalline minerality and great longevity.

Antoine Jobard

With the boon of Meursault's popularity in the early aughts came the rise in notoriety of a select few, namely Coche-Dury, Roulot and Lafon. Yet right alongside them in terms of quality and age-ability were the wines of Francois Jobard, who produced from several of the very same vineyard sites. Around that same time, Antoine Jobard took over from his father (in 2007) and gradually pushed the level of perfectionism even higher.

Following his father's methods of longer elevage, in-barrel fermentations and long lees contact, Antoine's next step as to elevate the farming; biodynamic methods were instituted, and the noticeable changes are in the wines approachability in their youth, but also the exuberance and charm of the fruit in genral. They possess that classic Meursault flinty nature, with a nice splash of reduction in their youth, but are just as, if not more well-structured to age for decades as Francois' wines were.

The Jobard lineup from their 7 hectares is strong; the Bourgogne Blanc is among the top in Burgundy, Meursault En La Barre is a top lieu-dit of the house, bright and citrusy with great minerality. Don't miss the Poruzots and Genevrieres, which are stunning and deserving of decades in the cellar!

Vinous

92-94

The 2018 Meursault Poruzots 1er Cru comes courtesy of 0.79 hectares of vine planted between 1972 and 1994. It is well defined on the nose, offering scents of hazelnut and grilled walnut, hints of orange blossom and a very faint menthol notes. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a judicious tang of ginger that lends tension, and impressive depth toward the finish, which lingers in the mouth. Superb.
