The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru conveys a sense of space and delineation on the nose, delivering exquisite delineation and poise and wonderful focus as red cherry, strawberry and tayberry aromas unfold. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy opening. The new oak lends this a very smooth sheen. Moderate in depth, and quite sweet and candied toward the finish, this is a fine Clos Saint-Jacques that will be more approachable than Bruno Clair's. Divine. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.
