Les Caillerets is a small 0.33-hectare parcel featuring 60-year-old vines nurtured on limestone soils. Following a traditional winemaking approach, the process includes extended lees contact and aging in oak barrels for 15-22 months. Raphael also favors the concept of slow fermentation, believing it enhances complexity and ultimately results in wines that are superior in quality. He has likened this vintage to the openness seen in 2001.

The 2017 Meursault Les Caillerets 1er Cru has an extremely defined bouquet of perfumed orange blossom, rosewater, crushed stone and pressed white flowers. You could nose this all day! The palate is well balanced and powerful, with intense salinity toward the pretty finish. One of Coche-Dury's most mercurial 2017s, this opened in awesome fashion in the five minutes I spend with it.
