The 2015 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru is another grand cru that feels initially quite reduced, but it opens with aeration to reveal brambly red fruit, sous-bois, pine needles and a light sprinkling of spice. Some stem addition here? If so, it is very well used. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin and well-judged acidity, and more backward than Bruno Clair’s Clos-de-Bèze but showing wonderful structure and backbone toward the persistent finish. Pure class and breeding. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
