Both 2014s showed well. The 2014 Côte Rôtie Côte Brune sees a touch more new oak than the classic cuvée and is aged in 20-30% new barrels. It’s always a more structured, tannic wine and requires more bottle age. Bacon fat, pepper, smoked meats and an undeniable floral character all emerge from this beautiful, concentrated and age-worthy 2014 that’s up with the crème de la crème of the vintage.

Inky ruby. A complex bouquet evokes an array of dark fruits and pungent flowers as well as cracked pepper, allspice and a wild passion fruit quality. Sweet, seamless and expansive on the palate, offering concentrated boysenberry, bitter cherry and violet pastille flavors that become livelier as the wine opens up. Smooth tannins make a late appearance on the finish, which hangs on with outstanding, floral-driven tenacity.
