The pretty, elegant and ruby/plum-colored 2013 Cote Rotie (there's 10% Viognier in the blend) offers perfumed notes of black cherries, currants, spring flowers and licorice in a medium-bodied, supple, forward and endearing style. While already hard to resist -- the bottle will be empty before you know it -- it should evolve nicely on its balance over the coming 5-8 years.

Glass-staining ruby. Smoke- and mineral-accented cherry and blueberry scents are complemented by deeper licorice and olive paste qualities. Sweet, penetrating black and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors are underscored by a smoky mineral element and pick up Asian spice and cola qualities with air. Spreads out slowly on the impressively long, smoke-tinged finish, which is framed by silky tannins that meld smoothly with the densely packed, vibrant fruit.
