The Wine Advocate

Wine Advocate

Still backwards and closed, yet with undeniable potential, the 2010 St Joseph is easily the deepest, richest wine in the retrospect, and needs to be forgotten for anther 2-3 years. Some coaxing yields black, black fruits, lots of minerality and a touch of spring flowers, and it possesses full-bodied richness, building, ripe tannin and a great finish.

Bright purple. Black and blue fruits on the highly perfumed nose, with notes of star anise, potpourri and cracked pepper adding complexity. Stains the palate with intense, spice-driven black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors, picking up sweetness and floral nuances with air. Fine-grained tannins give shape and grip to a strikingly long, focused and mineral-accented finish. This wine's balance and mineral expression is something else.
