There are only about 200 cases of the 2009 Cote Rotie Cote Brune, which sees around 15% new oak. Made in a denser, more muscular, masculine style, it offers abundant notes of creme de cassis, black raspberries, licorice, roasted meats and tobacco leaf. Heady, rich and full-bodied, it should drink well for 10-15+ years. (It was scheduled to be bottled immediately after my visit.) (Not yet released)

Vivid ruby. Pungent berry skin and cherry on the highly fragrant, spice-accented nose. Rich but surprisingly energetic, offering sweet black raspberry and cherry compote flavors lifted by a jolt of zesty minerality. Becomes smokier with air and finishes with outstanding energy and lingering spiciness. Offers a superb marriage of power and elegance is superb and appears to be destined for a long life, despite being delicious today.
