The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Aux Cras is viscerally thrilling from the very first taste. It exudes tons of minerality and sheer energy to support a racy, totally expressive core of red fruit. Layer after layer of flavor builds effortlessly to the huge, structured finish. A veritable kaleidoscope of aromas and flavors overwhelms the senses in this intensely satisfying, complete Burgundy. This is flat-out dazzling. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. Louis-Michel Liger-Belair’s 2009s have turned out just as great as I thought they would. These are some of the most personal, intimate wines being made in Burgundy. There really is nothing else that even closely resembles the house style.

Good deep, bright red. Subdued red fruits, mocha, leather and minerals on the nose. The very ripe, lush palate shows an almost confectionery cherry sweetness but underlying minerality and firm acids give the wine energy. Big chewy tannins will need time to harmonize with the wine's fruit. Liger-Belair waited a few extra days to harvest this fruit, which he says was high in sugar and acidity.
