(two-thirds of these vines are now 85 years old, according to Lafon) Good fresh, deep red. Rather brooding nose offers red cherry, smoke, earth and a whiff of menthol. More reticent and tight in the mouth than the Clos des Chenes, showing less early sweetness but more power. Distinctly clenched today, finishing with a serious tannic spine. This one will need at least five years of cellaring.
