When it comes to the 2004 Graacher Domprobst Riesling Auslese A.P. #14 – which incorporates some stringently selected botrytis berries along with material from a subsequent, frost-influenced picking – there is more harmony to the concentration. One smells spiced apple, dried pears and fresh lime, then tastes dried orchard fruits, candied pineapple, banana, honey, salt, wet stone, and fresh citrus. The finish is gripping, more than a little tart, yet at the same time richly, if almost severely, concentrated with dried orchard fruits, blazing citrus, and sheer mineral mass. If this comes together with time it could be exceedingly impressive and long-lived as well as distinctive.
