The man made his name with Moscato, and channeled that success into becoming one of the leading Piedmontese producers of all. Yes, Giorgio Rivetti is as captivating as he is driven and talented, and possesses a wealth of top vineyards in Barbaresco, Barolo and even Tuscany, all under the umbrella of La Spinetta.

La Spinetta

His wines are as ebullient as Giorgio, a man always with a smile on his face, seemingly. La Spinetta's wines are never too stern, always full of grace and a lush charm. Giorgio has somehow found the successful bridge between age-worthy and pleasurable, even with Nebbiolo, which we have stated openly is often a grape requiring much patience. You won't have to work too hard to find pleasure in his wines, though, as evidenced in wines like "Pin" - Giorgio's nickname to his friends - a beautiful and timeless blend of Barbera and Nebbiolo - a gorgeous wine of succulent red fruits and savory hints showcasing the best of each varietal.

The 2000 Barolo Campe, the first which Rivetti has made, is very fresh and vigorous for a wine from this hot vintage, spicy and balsamic in aroma with much tar and chocolate as well, dense flavors, much length and intensity, and a sizeable but supple close. Already quite approachable, it will last another decade and a half.

Good deep medium red. Roasted, smoky nose hints at menthol. Fat, large-scaled and powerful; comes across as sweeter than the 2001 but less refined, despite possessing solid underlying minerality. Showing more shoulders today than the 2001. Finishes with lovely ripe tannins and excellent brea dth.
