2000 Coche-Dury, Meursault

The 2000 vintage originates from various parcels in Meursault and follows traditional winemaking methods such as extended lees contact and aging in barrels for 15 to 22 months. This extended period on the lees and barrel aging not only prevents oxidation but also contributes to the wines' freshness. A consistent standout in Coche's collection.

This bottle of Coche's 2000 Meursault Villages was drinking very well, with a pretty nose of creamy hazelnut, citrus pith and understated yellow orchard fruit, framed by a very subtle touch of new oak and some autolytic top notes of oatmeal. On the palate, the wine is elegantly glossy and beginning to reach its peak, finishing with great precision. This isn't the most deep or concentrated rendition of the domaine's Meursault, but it is a lovely bottle of white Burgundy.

The 2000 Meursault Village is a wine that I have tasted twice before. It has a satisfying and precise bouquet that sports a lighter reduction than other vintages, hints of brioche and baked bread unfurling with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with a mixture of white peach and white chocolate infusing the citrus fruit, becoming livelier towards the finish. One forgets that this Village Cru is actually now 18-years old and as such, it has matured with style and class. Tasted at Le Bistro de l'Hôtel in Beaune.
