Spanning just 0.33 ha and planted in 1960, Coche-Dury's wines are highly esteemed and eagerly sought after, making them among the most famous white Burgundies. The winemaking process is traditional, involving extended lees contact and aging in barrels for 15-22 months, depending on the vintage.

The 1991 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is still entrancing after 22 years. The aromatics rivet you to the spot with its compelling scents of dried yellow flowers, minerals and lemon zest that has an almost unnatural level of vibrancy. The palate has a viscous entry and remains exquisitely balanced with stunning tension and vibrancy. It then glides effortlessly towards a lightly nutty finish that leaves you gasping for the next sip. Magical! Drink now-2020+. Tasted November 2013. Here is another raft of wines from the most feted and yet still mysterious Cote de Beaune growers. Jean-Francois Coche’s reds are more elusive than his whites, but they can be astonishing.

Coche's 1991 Corton-Charlemagne is a wine of extraordinary precision and weightless elegance. Orchard fruit, white flowers, slate and white peppers are all beautifully delineated throughout. Striking in its perfume and transparency, the 1991 is simply magnificent today. Time in bottle has given the 1991 its unctuous texture, yet the wine remains remarkably fresh and capable of drinking well for another decade, perhaps more. What a gorgeous wine this is.
