The 1990 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru offers plenty of ripe red berry fruit, quite floral in style with crushed violet, though not as refined or entrancing as the 1991 by direct comparison. With further aeration there is a hint of tomato vine implying maybe a few vines did not reach full maturity? The palate is founded on supple tannin, fresh raspberry and cranberry fruit laced with white pepper and clove, moderate in length but lacking the complexity and nuance of other vintages. This is not going to improve further but it should last another 12 to 15 years. Tasted at the Gouges retrospective at La Cabotte.
