How Pre-Arrival Works

These wines are currently on the way to Thatcher’s Wine. We have sourced them from some of our clients' private cellars, our friends in Europe, direct from the domaine or through our other trusted networks. On each product you will note an estimated time of arrival. Understand that these are only estimates, and to ensure that your wine arrives safely it may be longer. Utilizing this method allows us to offer some amazing wines and gives you the opportunity to secure them earlier. Upon arrival at TWC you will receive a notification and we will ship the wines to you.

Yvon embodies the humble and proud vigneron, a man who would rather tend his vines than host appointments, and sell to close friends than foreign markets. He has long farmed what are sure to be among the oldest vines in the entirety of the region, predominantly centered in Fleurie. Undoubtedly, these are some of the most pure, fresh yet unctuous wines that have ever come from the Beaujolais region. Never sulfured, they are the pinnacle of freshness and drinkability upon release, yet benefit from long cellar aging as well.

Yvon Metras

As with producers like Rayas, Métras doesn't disclose his methods in the cellars; what we do know is that he is the keeper of some of the oldest vines in Beaujolais, with plantings back to the late 19th century partially explaining the unparalleled depth and finesse of his wines. Somehow, even with the mind-blowing concentration of flavor, there is an extra-ordinary lift on the palate, unexplainably so.

Yvon's first solo vintage, outside of the co-op for whom he had worked, was 1988; he inherited the estate of Romanèche-Thorins and its 5 hectares, and was lucky enough to cross paths with his neighbor, Marcel Lapierre, whose natural winemaking philosophies were learned from the Godfather of Beaujolais, Jules Chauvet, and subsequently fully embraced by Yvon; putting these methods into practice formed the path to creating such legendary wines.
