The 1987 Cornas is ready to drink and while I suspect that well-stored bottles with be drinking just fine over the coming years I'd hedge my bets and be drinking it now, or not long from now. Showing smoky red fruit, pipe tobacco and violet on the pungent nose, a hint of black pepper adds lift and spiciness. Juicy cherry and black raspberry flavors show a touch of gaminess and pick up a hint of olive with air. Chewy tannins give grip to the finish, which clings with good tenacity and echoing smokiness.
