The 1988 Cristal Rosé comes across as clenched and also slightly diffuse, especially in its aromatics. Sweet dried cherry, tobacco, cedar, crushed flowers and mint open with some coaxing, but the 1988 never really comes together fully. I find the balance here slightly precarious, but I have also had better bottles. Tasting this at the maison alongside many other wines of the same era and more recent vintages only serves to reinforce how far the wines have come since then, especially in terms of precision. Dosage is 11 grams per liter. Disgorged: 1985.
